What is microblading?
Microblading is a tattooing technique in which a small handheld tool made of several tiny needles is used to add semi-permanent pigment to the skin. Microblading differs from standard eyebrow tattooing because each hair stroke is created by hand using a blade that creates fine slices in the skin, whereas eyebrow tattoos are done with a machine and a single needle. It is typically used on eyebrows to create, enhance or reshape their appearance in terms of both shape and colour. It deposits pigment into the upper region of the dermis, so it fades more rapidly than traditional tattooing techniques, which deposit pigment deeper. Microblading artists do not necessarily tattoo artists, and vice versa, because the techniques require different training.
The microblading procedure is a semi-permanent tattoo. Like all tattoos, microblading can fade, depending on multiple factors, including quality of pigment/ink used, UV exposure, elements found in skincare products, and medications. The treatment lasts from one to two years. A touch-up session is encouraged 6 weeks after the first microblading procedure and every 12-18 months thereafter.
What is the microblading needle?
There are several types of blades. The blades in microblading are actually make up of lots of thin needles arrange closely together. It comes in single-row blades and double row blades with varying pin counts. There are hard and flexible blades. You can choose from blades with 7 pins up to blades with 28 pins. Each pin represents the thickness of the blade. Usually, the thinner the blades, the sharper they are, and vice versa. All blades have their own advantages.

Curved blades
Curved blades – also called angled blades, curved edges, or slant blades – are some of the most popular blades among microblading artists. Designed for creating beautiful, crisp hair strokes. The number of pins depends on how long or short you want the hair strokes to be.
Flat U-blades
Curve shape blades are commonly an angle shape curve edges or slant blades. As their name implies, they feature pins in the shape of the letter U. These blades are usually using for creating hair strokes with longer or shorter curves.
Nano blades
The diameter of nano blades determines their size, not their shape. Microblading needles are usually thinner (usually 0.16mm in diameter or less), allowing artists to create finer strokes of hair with greater precision. At Iolite Microblading, we offer nano versions of the curved edge microblade so that we can create ultra-thin strokes, but nanoneedles are also available in flat needle shapes.
